Work Related Anger

Oh Delta. You're so wonderful.

I'm sorry if the sarcasm dripped off the title onto your monitor or keyboard. I originally booked my flight with Northwest (I mean, c'mon, their abbreviation is NWA) and booked the exit row window for BOTH flights. I get to the airport and find that I've been bumped from NWA, but not really. You see, they were operating the NWA flight and the Delta flight as the same one. Nice. If I had known that, I would have saved the $8 and booked on Delta. Asshats. So, I get my seat assignment, thankfully by a window for the first leg and discover that I am booked in a middle seat for the second half. I don't freaking think so.

So, I finally land in Atlanta and am faced with a 2 hour layover, which wasn't listed on the itinerary that I booked, it was only about 75 minutes at that point. I have a $19 meal (before tip) of a hamburger (the server took my plate away before I could enjoy my pickle) and a Dos Equis bottle (no fruit). Great. They changed my gate about three times. I finally get the right gate after sitting in at two different gates (I did get to read the Enquirer for free, so that was nice) I purchase a $5 magazine that is really not that great of a read, but has a few good recipes in it, so that's at least SOMETHING, only to discover that my flight has been pushed back AGAIN.

I am now scheduled to depart at 11:45 p.m. Eastern time. I should get to PBI around 1:30 a.m. A mere TWO hours after I was scheduled to land. Of course, they laid the guilt trip down when they told us it was a weather delay. The incoming flight was sitting on the runway for 3 hours. I think that would have pissed me off more than 2 hours sitting in the ATL. Then again, the humidity here seeps into the airport. Ugh. Makes me miss the desert even more.

The headphones I have apparently aren't really good for flights. I could barely hear my mp3 player, so big shout out to passenger I. Sidden for leaving the latest Time magazine in the front seat pocket. I finished the NYT and didn't want to crack open my Pizza Today just yet, owing to the next flight where I would need SOMETHING to read other than the sky mall catalog.

Hopefully the morning brings better tidings.

I went to Tess' Rosary Service last night. I wasn't going to be able to get to the funeral today since I had to catch my flight. It made me almost want to be Catholic again. The comfort that a lot of these people were getting from their faith in their religion. I sat politely, did the standing and sitting and I did a quasi-kneel. I couldn't do the full kneel as my knees just ain't that young anymore. The old lady next to me was a trooper and was able to do the full kneel. Good for her.

The incense in the chapel was stifling, but it was awesome to see so many people there for Tess. I got to see one of her brothers that I haven't seen in almost 4 years and my old buddy Mike. Met his new girlfriend. She was wearing a veil. A few of the women there were wearing veils. Hair covers that I haven't seen in forever in a Catholic church. Then again, I haven't been to a church in a long time. I don't remember ever seeing any women wear them when I did go to church however. This was a Byzantine Catholic church. No kneeling, trade off is that you have to cover your hair. Small price to pay for knee health. :)

Due to the incense, I couldn't stay past the service, my head was ready to blow. I didn't say my goodbyes to her body, but I did say my goodbyes in my head. I'm sure she hears them if there is an afterlife.

Bye Tess. It was an honor knowing you.
