A meme stolen from albadore regarding high school. Somewhat significant for me as it's my 10th year reunion (which I won't be going to).

Your senior year in High School is supposed to be "the best year of your life." Let's see how much you remember. I know for some it might be hard for you to go back!

Year: 1995-96

1. Who was your best friend?
Caroline F or Allison B. It's hard to remember that well.

2. What sports did you play?
Uhhh...who had time for sports? I was too busy writing a freaking novella.

3. What kind of car did you drive?
1981 Olds Cutlass. Rust brown. Missing a window in the backseat area. :)

4. It's Friday night, where were you?
Working at the movie theater with my friends.

5. Were you a party animal?
If you consider cooking chicken parmegiana for 13 people a party, then WOO!

6. Were you in the "In Crowd"
I had friends in almost every clique: cheerleaders, football players, nerds, band people, drama club. It helped that some of these people I had gone to school with since 1st grade.

7. Ever skip school?
Oh, of course. But, it was always excused. My mom was very understanding.

8. Ever smoke?
No. Not until college.

9. Were you a nerd?
I was one of the "cool" nerds. We were a class of nerds. It helped that I was in a program built for nerds. :)

10. Did you get suspended/expelled?
Nope.

11. Can you sing the alma mater song?
Uhhhh...I remember it mentioned the school's name once.

12. Favorite Teacher:
Mrs. Morse. My English teacher for 2 years and my Journalism teacher. She was also my advisor for my senior thesis. I miss her. She even visited me once in college. I watched her kids for her while she and her husband (who was going to law school at my university) went to a school function.

13. Favorite class?
Journalism.

14. What was your school's full name?
Suncoast Community High School

15. School mascot?
Chargers. It was a knight on a horse. We never actually had one show up to the games, though.

16. Did you go to Prom?
Yep. Both years. The first year I stayed all of 10 minutes. The next year I stayed for the whole thing. It was supremely boring.

17. If you could go back and do it over, would you?
Hmmm...well, I met my best friend in the entire world during high school. Funnily enough, she wasn't my best friend until I got to university. Otherwise, probably not. I hated most of the people in my class and couldn't stand the ridiculousness of the politics of scholarships/money/drop out rates/grades/etc. I really hated high school.

18. What do you remember most about graduation?
CONNECT! The speech given by the salutatorian. I also remember that there were 3 people (all girls) in yellow robes. The rest of us chose to graduate in black. The only thing I was happy about was that we held the ceremony at the Jai Alai (a game similar to handball that people bet on). This made me happy because my paternal grandmother passed away before I graduated and we always went to Jai Alai together. It made me feel like she was there with me. I miss her still. She was a great woman.

19. Favorite memory of your Senior Year?
I really don't have one. I have one of junior year though.

20. Were you ever posted up on the senior wall?
What's a "senior wall"? I did get a superlative: Class Taxi. :)

21. Did you have a job your senior year?
I worked at Okee Square, which was a United Artist theater. I became best friends with a classmate there. Heather. She's the best.

22. Who did you date?
No one. I almost dated Laurence Hall. But, he had a girlfriend. I was dateless all through high school. Shocking, I know.

23. Where did you go most often for lunch?
We sat on the patio outside of the cafeteria.

24. Have you gained weight since then?
Oh yes.

25. What did you do after graduation?
We went to Project Graduation, which was this sad little carnival in the school parking lot. Then I went and hung out with my friends from the Junior class at a friend's apartment (he worked with us at the theater and was dating one of my classmates) and drank lots of soda and hung out and listened to music and were just...kids.

26.Did you write notes to friends during class?
Sometimes. I actually found one before I moved out here to Tucson. It was discussing my crush on "Bob". "Bob" was Laurence. We gave code names to our crushes so that people wouldn't know who we were talking about.

27. Who was your biggest crush?
Funnily enough, not "Bob". My real crush was on Jorge Rivera. He was just...mmmmmm.

28. Who was your arch enemy?
Jessica Stilly. I hated her. I still hate her. I don't know why, but she just rubbed me the wrong way. Maybe because two of my friends had a thing for her, one of them wound up dating her and she was just...oohhh...I hated her.

29. If you could re-do one day and be who you are today what day would it be?
I can't think of anything offhand. Part of me wishes that I had been a bit more forward with some of the guys I liked. But, then...I probably wouldn't be who I am today.

30. Did you play any pranks?
I assisted a teacher in playing a prank on another teacher. But, that's about it.

31. Did you decorate lockers for birthdays?
No.

32. Were you a flirt?
I tried. They either didn't get it or just really weren't interested.

33. Who do you miss the most?
Preethy and Megan. We went to breakfast on our free period days. I also miss DJ. I wonder what he's up to.

34. Were you ever caught making out?
No, because I didn't ever do that in high school. *sigh*

35. Are you excited to go to your 5/10 year reunion?
Uh, no. I threw out the invite. It's this year. I may go to the 20, just to see who is bald and who is successful. Honestly, I disliked about 86% of my classmates, I have no desire to see them. Ever.

I went to my 10th. Tried to duck the 20th, but wound up putting in a command appearance, which was pretty cool, because I got to enjoy the reunion without having to pay to attend, or get a new outfit. A friend with whom I'd reconnected @ the 20th paid for both of us to attend the 30th.

It's easier to duck out of these things when you don't live in the area anymore, but a number of classmates who now live all over the place actually come home for high school reunions.

Probably more fun to attend the reunions when one gets older. Depends on how things went between reunions. I enjoyed seeing former wallflowers looking absolutely fantastic, while the bloom has fallen off the rose for some of those, male & female, who peaked in high school.

But it's really nice to reconnect with some of the people who remember you and were too shy to really spend time with you when you were all kids.

I think that's why I'll wait until the 20th reunion. I have no desire to see these people right now. :)
