Brit Hume on Mark Foley:
HUME: It is very serious misbehavior on the part of Congressman Foley, whether it stems from arrogance or just weakness of the human flesh is another question. It’s probably worth noting that there’s a difference between the two parties on these issues. Inappropriate behavior towards subordinates didn’t cost Gerry Studds his Democratic seat in Massachussetts, nor Barney Frank his. Nor did inappropriate behavior toward a subordinate even cost Bill Clinton his standing within the Democratic Party, even though indirectly he was impeached for it. Mark Foley found out about this, was found out to have done this, and he’s out of office and in total disgrace in his party.
Ok, these examples that he puts forth have nothing to do with UNDERAGE individuals, with the exception of Studds. You want to compare Studds and Foley, fine. But Frank (at least to my knowledge) and Clinton were not involved with underage children. Monica was over the age of 18 and I have no idea what he's talking about with Frank, unless he's referring to the prostitution scandal that he had no part of, it was someone using his apartment.
And I don't think that having cybersex with 16 and 17 year olds is something stemming from arrogance. Or "weakness of the human flesh". What the fuck does that mean? And why is it okay for Foley to get it on with boys but OMG THE GAYS ARE THE EBUL for everyone else?
The big difference between the reactions of the Republican party in this case is that they circled the wagons for Foley and went for blood with Clinton.
Am I missing something here?
