Oh, an email "battle" that I had with a friend today. I'm still waiting for her reply. I'll put a cut because it got kind of long :)

First email from friend:

If you want to see he beheading of the American, it's at (removed, I don't want to promote that)

If 9/11 didnt make you mad, this will..... Fucking bastards can go to hell! I hope they all die. I dont even know why we are there anymore.

Sadly, I don't have my response saved, but it was something like, "They didn't have anything to do with 9/11, so don't even bring that up. We shouldn't have gone there. We need to get out and let them rebuild their country how they would like it."

Her response:

While I agree with what you said I also have my opionions. Why help people who don't want our help? Why help people who HATE us? Who cares what happens to them! I wonder if you would still have your views/opinions if one of your family members had been on one of the planes that hit the world trade towers or the Pentagon?
How are you anyway? Where are you now? What are you doing for work?

My response:

> While I agree with what you said I also have my

> us? Who cares what happens
> to them!

Well, it's like I said, we shouldn't be there. I
don't argue that point with you one bit. I understand
some of the reasons why they hate us now. There
probably was great celebration when Saddam was gone.
After that we should have said, "Glad we could help.
Here's your government. Later!"

I think we need to care what happens to people,
because it does affect us in some way. Al Qaeda was
funded and organized by a man who hated the US for
taking away his opportunity to fight Saddam during the
first Gulf War and for moving into *his* country (he
is saudi arabian) with our military to take down
Saddam. Now, the way he went about venting his
frustration, not very nice. But, he's like a Charles
Manson, he is able to persuade these people using
bastardized views of religion and preying upon their
fears (much like our media does here) and coaxing them
to join his operations. Perhaps if things weren't the
way they were, people would be less inclined to join
up with his group of fanatical zealots. The same
applies to cults. Prey upon those who have the most
fear and the least to "live" for.

I wonder if you would still have your

I would. Violence only begets more violence. Bin
Laden should have been taken down, Afghanistan should
have been rid of the Taliban, sleeper cells should
have been rounded up and a international coalition
should have been formed to assist in that process.
Those who were responsible for the planning should
have been prosecuted and put into the justice system.
Then, let Afghanistan rebuild itself and boom, done.
Going to war with Iraq was not the answer. I think
you are missing the big picture here and that is this
one simple thing: Iraq had NOTHING to do with the
attacks. Nothing. Bin Laden and Saddam can't stand
each other. As I mentioned earlier, Bin Laden offered
his Afghan veterans to the Saudi king to help fight
Saddam off and keep him from attacking Kuwait. He was
turned away. Saddam was a secular ruler, he didn't
use religion in his rule and that made him an infidel
in the eyes of bin Laden. Bin Laden is a
fundamentalist muslim. But, he has completely turned
the Koran around to suit his needs, kind of like
fundamentalist christians in this country and their
hatred of abortion and gay right to marriage.

Not only that, but the attacks on us, yes, they were
unexpected by the population at large (many in the
government knew something was going to happen, just
not what) but how would you feel if you lived in a
country that was being bombed every week by the US?
Probably not very happy. If your kid died because of
the sanctions placed on the country and so he couldn't
eat and you didn't even do anything, it was your
government. Not very fun.

I love cuts, can I just tell you? Well, I just did :)

Calling dems tomorrow, I'll let you know how that goes. I got to leave work early today because I had to drive up to North Fort Myers to get some plans for the estimator. That was very nice to just get out of there. Got home and had the house to myself for like 2 1/2 hours. Just peace and quiet. The dog was here, but he was laying down for the most part. But, he's driving me nuts because I can't eat a fucking meal without him sticking his damn nose on my leg or barking in my ear or sniffing on me trying to get my damn food. The cat is getting to be just as bad, but as least if she bites me she can't fit my whole hand in her mouth. :)

Maybe I'll post more later. :)
